For those with the beds that have drawers or bookshelf headboards - are they useful?
We're looking at getting our son a twin sized bed once he's out of his crib, and have seen a lot that have drawers below, and most sets come with a bookshelf headboard. My question is, for those who have them, did you find the drawers useful or is it better to get a dresser? What about those bookshelf headboards, have you found them useful or annoying? Is it better to get a bookshelf that can be moved around freely and not provide your child with nighttime distractions above their head? Did your toddler try to climb up on them? I figured I should ask around before investing in a bedroom set for him!

- if it was me i would get the bed with the drawers under the bed i do not personally have one but my mother in law bought something like that for when her grand children stay over and i would think that the book shelf behind the bed would have more distractions then the drawers would
- Skip the headboard. When kids that age sleep they flop all over the place and it's one more hard surface to hit and wake themselves up. Also it will be a distraction (the wall is a distraction when my son doesn't want to sleep though LOL) The drawers are a great idea, can never go wrong with too much storage, however you will have to put locks on them. And not the ones that you have to pull out an inch or two to unlock or else your little one will attempt to pull out anything he can reach and stuff in anything he can get to fit. Look into installing the magnet locks that require a special "key" in order to open the drawers. No drilling needed to install those as far as I know. My son is now sleeping in a double bed (mattress and boxspring) on the floor with no headboard. He sleeps so much better than when he was in the toddler bed because he moves too much when he sleeps. He's almost 3 and has also just clued in that if he tears all the clothes out of his dresser and gets them dirty so I have to wash them, he won't have his favorite shirt or pants to wear that day. Between that and the fact that removing all the clothes from the drawer probably got boring after the 200th time, he rarely does that now. I would have put locks on the drawers but he was using the dresser that my grandmother got as a wedding gift and while it's not in top notch shape I didn't want to damage it further. I mean it has already survived two generations of kids using it, so I'm hoping it lasts for the third! Good luck with whatever you decide!
