How many mattresses should I put in my crib?

My wife and I are expecting our first child, and the crib we registered for says to put four mattresses in it! I've never heard of multiple mattresses in cribs, so I'm wondering, is this safe? Yeah, I think it just may be a typo. It must be four mattress adjustments. Thanks for all of your help!

  1. whoah what?! One mattress is all you're supposed to have! I would reconsider another crib or call the manufacturer to ask them what they mean by that.
  2. just one it will also fit a toddler bed for when your lil one turns 2
  3. It doesn't seem like four mattresses would even fit in a crib, and if it did it's definitely not safe. I would look at the manual very carefully, and/or register for a different one.
  4. I've never heard of that either. We're using a support box & a firm mattress for our crib. Oh, and a sleep positioner.
  5. ummm 1
  6. Whoa! That's a misprint! ONE mattress is all that you need, and what is safe. Four mattresses would almost be above the sides of the crib...the baby could just roll right off!
  7. Register for a new one. No, I dont think it would be safe. It would be interesting to call the manufacter and see what they say though....
  8. Just one.
  9. uh, one??
  10. This sounds like a case of a simple misunderstanding. There are some cribs available (we have one) that has four different levels of mattress adjustment. As your baby grows, you drop the mattress height for safety. If you read this in the paperwork that you got when you registered, maybe it's just a typo or misprint. I've absolutely never heard of any reason to use more than one crib mattress. Besides safety issues, that wouldn't be very cost effective at all!
  11. just one!!!!
