How come there is a shortage of Mattresses?

I went down to buy a new mattress today and three or four stores I went to were sold out. I asked the salesman why there was a shortage of mattresses and he told me people are buying them up to hide their money in. Is that true?

2. Well of course.. I got about 5 bucks under my hard mattress.. Maybe if i put more under it .. it would lay better.
