Is there a cheaper way to ship my mattresses without using a moving company?

I will soon be moving to another state and I'm looking for alternate methods of moving my mattresses and one antique dresser. Does anyone have any ideas from previous experience? I'll be moving within the next two months and I'm not looking to pay a lot of money. I'll only be shipping these items and buying new furniture when I get to my new location. Thank you.

  1. U-Haul has those really small pull behind trailers that can fit what you are talking about. If you are driving I would just do that, although you might have to get a hitch installed.
  2. It would probably be cheaper to just buy a new mattresses and give your dresser to another family member to hold onto and use in the meantime. Unless you want to rent a U-Haul and bring this stuff with. Shipping these things would be outrageous! Good luck.
  3. If that's all your shipping, you oughta just rent a U-Haul trailer and have some friend, or even yourself, hitch the trailer to your or their car or truck and haul it up there yourself. I've done this kind of "home moving" with a whole lot more than that and have either rented one of their smaller trailers or rented one of their bigger bobtail trucks and done it as quick and easy as pie. Hell, I've got a very nice pickup truck that needs some use and if you lived nearby and paid the fuel costs, I'd go hitch a U-Haul trailer to my nice Ford pickup and haul it myself, but, since I still haven't got my prosthetic leg back yet, and most likely you don't live anywhere near where I do, I guess that idea's off, but, it's all just to show you how easy it is to do, and I'm speaking from experience over the years. God Bless you.
  4. I'd also recommend just buying a new mattress and worrying about the dresser later. If you'd really like to have them with you, there are moving companies that specialize in small loads -- Mini Moves is one -- if you'd like to avoid having to do the work yourself.
